Hold'em - Practice

With all the new poker terminology and skills that you’re learning here at Empire Poker School, you need to actually practice playing poker in order to sharpen them. Don’t worry, the water’s warm.

When you decide to play, you must first download the software and install it on your computer, then create your account. After your account is created you simply take an open seat in the game of your choice. Players then compete against each other trying to win each other’s chips.

Always try to play in a game that you are comfortable with. You don’t want to put unneeded pressure on yourself by playing in a game that you can’t afford. That can cause you to play bad. Besides, you never want to gamble with money you can’t afford to lose.

As a beginner you might want to start off in the play money games to get accustomed to the software and the online poker experience. If you want to be a good player you’ll need to start advancing up in the real money games. To really compete, players need to be playing for money so you have something to loose otherwise players have the tendency to never fold. In other words it is usually just show down poker in the play money games. So, when you begin playing for real money, start in the lower limits and move up to higher limits as your skill and confidence improves. Just pretend you are climbing a ladder one step at a time until you are at the top. You might see a game going on that you like better than the one your in. If so, you can join it, or put your name on the waiting list, if it’s full. Being able to choose the best game will improve your chances of winning in the side games. If a seat isn’t open in your preferred game, just put your name on the list and you will be informed when your seat is available.

In the side games you have the option to quit anytime you want or to play as long as you have chips in front of you. When you quit, the money you have in front of you is automatically deposited back into your account.

Playing poker is a great social game; you can even chat with the other players at the table. Just remember not to discuss a hand while it is in progress. Enjoy the games and above all else, have fun. It is a game, after all.

To practice your tournament play, go to Empirepoker. Empire has single table and multi-table tournaments to choose from. The last two World Champions came from the Internet. Remember, practice makes perfect.

After you have an account you can log in and follow along with real hands-on instruction from World Champion, Brad Daugherty. Think how fast you will learn when you can discuss the play of a hand, learn his thoughts, and ask him questions. For the list of times and scheduled events keep your eye on the home page. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
