Tournaments - No-limit Holdem Tournament Practice Hands

You have $1000 in chips in the first round of a tournament. The blinds are $10-$25 and you are holding A Q on the button. Mr. Tight limps under the gun for $25, the next player Mr. Aggressive raises the pot to $100, everyone else folds to you on the button. What is your play?

a. Call the $100
b. Reraise to $300
c. Move all-in
d. Fold

Let’s analyze this play. First off Mr. Tight limps, in early position. We have to remember that whenever Mr. Tight is in the pot, he has a good hand. He is never in there with nothing. Also, always be aware that when anyone limps up front, they could have a monster.

Our hand could be better than Mr. Aggressive, but since Mr. Tight limped up front we won’t take a chance of running into a hand held by Mr. Tight or his reraise. The correct play here is to fold. Choose d, and fold.

You are in early position with the 10 10 and have limped for $25. Mr. Aggressive raised on your immediate left to $75, Mr. Reckless calls the $75 on the button, the big blind calls and you decide to call. The pot now has a total of $325 in it; the flop comes K 10 4, the big blind checks to you. What is your play?

a. Bet $325 the size of the pot.
b. Bet $600, we have a big hand.
c. Check
d. Fold

We have flopped trips a big hand. Our thoughts are, “How can we get the most money in the pot?” Since we have Mr. Aggressive behind us and Mr. Reckless on the button. We know one of them will surely bet, so let’s choose C and hope Mr. Aggressive bets running everyone else into us so we can check raise and win a big pot.

You are in first position with $1000 in chips, the blinds are $25-$50. You look down to find Q Q and raise the pot to $150. Mr. Reckless calls behind you and Mr. Aggressive calls from the big blind, the pot now has $475 in it. The flop comes J 10 9, Mr. Aggressive bets $300 into you. What is your play?

a. Call
b. Raise to $600
c. Fold
d. Move all-in

You have flopped a nice hand, an overpair with an open-end straight draw. Mr. Aggressive would bet a lot of hands worse than yours. The best play for you is to move all-in, D.

The blinds are $25-$50, you have $1000 in chips and sitting in middle position with A k, everyone folded to you. What is your play?

a. Raise to $150
b. Fold
c. Raise to $300
d. Call

You have Ah K, otherwise known as big slick. The best no pair hand. It is almost even money against any hand except a pair of aces or kings. Pick A, and make the normal raise to $150.

Suppose you have $1000 in chips, the blinds are $25-$50, and you are in the big blind with A Q. Mr. Tight raises the pot to $200 in first position and Mr. Solid calls on the button. The small blind folds. What is your play?

a. Call
b. Raise the pot to $400
c. Move all-in
d. Fold

You have A Q, a fair hand but not one worth putting lot’s of chips into the pot against players that plays like Mr. Tight and Mr. Solid. Choose d and fold.
