Real Money Games
Playing for real money is what makes poker the most exciting game in the world. Every bet is a thrill – should you call or should you fold? Is he bluffing or not?
It's easy to play for real money on Empire Poker. The first step is to deposit money. (For more information click here). Then, you need to decide which game to play. If you are new to poker, then it is recommended that you start at lower limit tables. You can move on to the higher stakes games once you feel more comfortable. If you are new to Empire, try out the play money games for a few minutes to get a feel for the system before you play for real money.
Choosing the right game means choosing the right limit to play at. In a $1-2 limit game, for example, a small bet is $1 and a big bet $2. In the NL $50 room, there is no maximum limit to your bets, but you cannot bring more than $50 into the room. In limit, NL, and PL games, a small percentage of each pot (the rake) goes to the poker room as a fee for its services. For Rake schedules click here. In a $10+1 tournament, $10 goes toward the prize pool, which is divided among the top three finishers, and the $1 fee goes to the poker room.
The limit you play at will determine how much money you need to bring to the table, how much you are risking and how much you stand to win. I recommend bringing at least 50 big bets to the table. For example, in a $1-2 game, bring at least $100, but $200 would be preferable. The reason for this is that no matter how well you are playing, there will be some natural ups and downs due to luck and variance, and it is important to insulate yourself from these fluctuations. In a NL or PL game, I recommend that you bring the maximum.
The most important thing is that you not bring more to the table than you can afford to lose. Play at a table where you will have fun, but there is no need to risk your rent money. Empire Poker offers a variety of small-stakes games if you don't want to risk much money. That being said, there are many high-stakes games for the high rollers and experienced poker players among you. Playing at the $15-30, it is not uncommon to see a player win or lose several hundred dollars in one sitting. The competition in these games is much harder than in the low limit games, as you might expect.
