Cards and Chips
There are 52 cards in a standard deck. These cards are divided into 4 suits, with 13 different ranks in each suit.
The suits: Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs
The suits are all equal; no suit is "higher" than any other suit.
The ranks (highest to lowest): Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
Ace is sometimes abbreviated "A", King "K", Queen "Q", Jack "J", and Ten "T".
The ace can also be used for the low end of the straight 5432A, where the ace acts as a one.
Instead of bringing cash to the table, poker players buy chips to represent money, since they are easier to use and count. At Empire Poker, the following denominations are used:
$0.25 – Gray
$1 – Blue
$5 – Red
$25 – Green
$100 – Gray with yellow stripes
$500 – Orange with green stripes
There is no need to memorize the colors, since the chips also have their value printed on them. Most Internet poker sites use similar colors, so if you have played Internet poker before, the chips should be familiar.
